Travel beyond the modern city limits across the Hamble River to the pretty village of Titchfield, itself a medieval port. Moving north along the tranquil Meon valley visit Titchfield Abbey that once housed a library of more than a thousand manuscripts. Further up the valley is the village of Wickham with its Chesapeake Mill. Tour Porchester Castle with its Roman walls and medieval keep standing tall at the head of Portsmouth Harbour.
