The History Teller Tours: Personal guided tour of Medieval Southampton, Beaulieu Abbey and the New Forest.

Your tour starts in Southampton where you will see its medieval city walls and Bargate. It was from Southampton that the Titanic started her ill-fated maiden voyage across the Atlantic. Enjoy the drive out over the New forest to beautiful Beaulieu Abbey the ancestral home of Lord Montagu’s family since 1538.

A short way down the Beaulieu River visit with me the Georgian shipbuilding settlement of Bucklers Hard where Nelson’s favourite ship the Agamemnon was built.

The history in the tour ranges from the Roman conquest through Henry VIII’s break with Rome to the present day. A story that weaves an intricate tapestry of conquest, commoners rights and accession to the throne.

Extend this tour

You can add to this tour a picturesque journey across the forest to Minstead Church yard to see the grave of author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Visit the Rufus Stone, and hear of the mystery surrounding the death of King William II.

Alternatively visit St Nicholas church in Brockenhurst, last resting place of many young New Zealand soldiers of the First World War. ANZAC Day is celebrated here each year.
