The Isle of Wight Tour, Osborne House and Caribrook Castle

The History Teller Tours: Personal guided visit to the Isle of Wight taking in Osborne House and Carisbrook Castle.

Take the ferry trip with me across to the Isle of Wight and visit Queen Victoria’s favourite home full of imperial splendour. Let me show you Carisbrook Castle, medieval fortress and prison to King Charles I. Join me on a stroll along the castle walk at Cowes and hear about the Royal Yacht Squadron and America’s Cup. This island, which, during two periods of its history was under its own independent rule, is a charming spot attracting many tourists to its shore during the summer months.

The Romans named the island Vectis, the name changing to Wight during the Jute and Saxon periods. Throughout its early history the island suffered frequent attacks from the Vikings and later the French. During the Regency period it attracted those interested in sea bathing as a health cure. For those that preferred to take their pleasure on the water rather than in it yachting become popular and to this day forms an important part of the islands economy.
