Who is ‘The History Teller’?

My name is Richard Frankland and I am The History Teller.

I was born in the Portsmouth and Southampton area and, although I have lived abroad and in other areas of England, I’m always drawn back ‘home’ by the rich cultural heritage of the Solent region.

From a boy, I was surrounded by the stories of King Henry V, Henry VIII, Admiral Anson, the diarist Samuel Pepys, Admiral Lord Nelson, the author Charles Dickens and the 19th century engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. These names and their stories gave me a thirst to learn more about the history of these islands.

With a masters degree in Maritime Studies and Heritage, I formed ‘The History Teller Tours’. I take small parties to visit the local area and tell them about some of its intriguing history. I am also often asked to give talks to history societies and other interest groups.

The Solent Area isn’t only about seaports and dockyards. It’s a gateway to the beautiful countryside of Hampshire, its New Forest and the story of the fascinating and diverse people in its past.
